D-Fructose 1,6-bisphosphate trisodium salt (FBP) is a common metabolic sugar, which is the precursor of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate in the glycolysis pathway. It can be used as allosteric activators of enzymes, such as pyruvate kinase and NAD+ dependent L-(+)- lactate dehydrogenase, as inhibitors of acetic acid kinase, as well as bisphosphate aldolase and fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, which are substrates for the identification and characterization of enzymes (if sugar-1,6-). FBP has been studied as a neuroprotective agent for brain injury.
